Ozil: Real Madrid can beat anyone
The creative midfielder believes the Blancos still have every chance of beating Manchester United, and is delighted with his side's success against Barcelona this season
Mesut Ozil is confident that Real Madrid have what it takes to reach the Champions League quarter-finals at the expense of Manchester United ahead of Tuesday's encounter at Old Trafford. The Blancos were held to a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg, but Ozil has stressed that they are high on confidence following their recent wins over Barcelona.
"It’s going to be a difficult match against a really good squad, but we already showed what we’re capable of in the first leg. We were clearly better in the first half, with loads of chances," Ozil told Die Welt.
"We have great respect for United but we aim to play our game; that way we can beat anybody. If you can win in Barcelona, you can win in Manchester."
The Germany international then went on to voice his delight with Madrid's success against arch-rivals Barcelona this term.
"I love playing against the best every day," he added. "Everyone’s watching. Playing against Barcelona is an enormous motivation. The Clasico has huge repercussions and eliminating them from the Copa was fantastic.
"We’ve proved that we can play against them strength to strength. We won the Super Cup against them and we’ve eliminated them from the Copa. We’re proud."
