'I understand David Villa's situation' - Bojan
The Spaniard has expressed sympathy towards his compatriot's position at Barcelona, and will be looking to net against his former side when they meet each other next week
AC Milan forward Bojan says he has sympathy for former team-mate David Villa due to the Spain international's struggle for first-team opportunities at Barcelona. The 22-year-old, now at Milan on loan from Roma, had found himself frozen out at the Catalan giants and is currently playing in his second season in Italy with the Rossoneri.
And the forward says he can relate to how Barca striker Villa must be feeling with the 31-year-old struggling to play regularly having been hampered by injury.
“I fully understand what is happening to Villa. He was used to being the reference point for his team, always scoring the goals, but this is difficult for him, he has to adapt to another position because he is next to the best player in the world," Bojan told RAC1.
Bojan also discussed his desire to score against his former club, who still have a buy back option on him available, in the upcoming Champions League clash.
“I have wanted to play and score against Barca, but not out of anger or bitterness, which I do not have, but in order to help my team-mates,” he continued.
“Would it be a point of vindication? Yeah, but for the importance of the game.”
Bojan will also contemplate celebrating if he does indeed score against the club from the place that he refers to as "home".
He added: “If there is nothing wrong then I will not think that celebrating a goal at San Siro would be a lack of respect, I suppose I would celebrate, but at the Camp Nou it may be different, depending on the moment, I prefer not to think about it.”
AC Milan are set to face Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League on February 20.
