'Mourinho did it in Madrid's best interests' - Del Bosque plays down Casillas omission
The Spain boss believes the saga involving his goalkeeper and the Blancos coach has been blown out of proportion but hinted at a possible international career for Antonio Adan
Vicente del Bosque has dismissed the notion that Jose Mourinho's decision to drop Iker Casillas in Real Madrid's 3-2 defeat to Malaga on Saturday was influenced by an ulterior motive. The Blancos boss raised eyebrows when he named Antonio Adan in goal for the trip to La Rosaleda, and a series of media personalities have since reacted to the change in personnel, including former No.1 Paco Buyo and ex-Sevilla and USSR shot-stopper Rinat Dasayev.
However, the Spain coach insists Mourinho did what he thought was in Madrid's best interests and must be respected, while he was non-committal on the prospect of calling up Casillas' deputy in his next international party.
"That's the coaches decision, I have nothing to say [on this matter]," Del Bosque told Deportes Cuatro. "It should not surprise us at all. He will have done what he thought was best for the team.
"[As for Adan's inclusion in the Spain squad?] It depends. All players are eligible."
