Khumalo believes Doncaster Rovers have the squad capable of finishing top of the Championship log at the end of the season
Doncaster Rovers defender and former Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo has set his sights on promotion with his new club.
Khumalo has been a regular starter for Rovers since his loan move from Tottenham Hotspur last month, and says he wants to help Rovers to the Premier League next season.
“I think we can go all the way, we’re as good as anybody else and we’d like to surprise some people this season," Khumalo told BBC Radio Sheffield. “Promotion is the golden prize and if you work hard and have belief then you have a chance.”
Doncaster let their two-goal advantage over Wigan Athletic slip on Tuesday night, but Khumalo is not too disappointed with the result because they didn’t lose the game.
“We’d have taken a point before we came here, but when you're 2-0 up you’re disappointed not to win.
“Everyone was fully committed to the cause, we created a lot of chances and we’ve done well in the circumstances,” he said.
The 26-year-old Khumalo is unfazed by the underdog tag given to Doncaster Rovers this season, and he says they are only focusing on finishing in a good position at the end of the season.
