Moloto: Sundowns will do better than Pirates and Chiefs in Caf

Pirates did well to reach the 2013 Caf Champions League final, and Moloto says that Sundowns will not only reach the final but they'll be crowned African champions next year
Former Bafana Bafana coach Trott Moloto has said that Mamelodi Sundowns will win the 2015 edition of the Caf Champions League, to become only the second South African team to lift the trophy.

Orlando Pirates reached the final of last year's competition, with Kaizer Chiefs crashing out in the second round earlier this year, but Moloto is confident that the Brazilians will do a better job than both the Soweto giants.

"We've made it after seven years of waiting," Moloto said as Sundowns began their celebrations at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday. "Now our focus is in Africa. We will do better than what Pirates and Chiefs achieved in Africa," he said.

The last time Sundowns came close to winning the Champions League was back in 2001 when they were defeated by Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the final.

Sundowns then failed to make any significant impression afterwards despite dominating the PSL, and they last competed in Africa's biggest club competition in 2008.

Coach Pitso Mosimane is expected to reinforce his squad in preparation for the tough schedule ahead to try and be competitive both in the PSL and in Africa.
