The 17-year-old Rivaldo Coetzee has been praised by Roger de Sa for his outstanding performances since joining the Urban Warriors' first team
Coetzee was part of the Ajax squad in their 2-0 loss to Maritzburg United over the weekend, and was crucial in the back four despite the loss. The defender was initially set to join the Urban Warriors u/19 team to participate in the Metropolitan Cup, but was later called back to first team responsibility due to Keagan Dolly’s injury.
After returning from his time spent with Ajax Amsterdam in January, Coetzee has since made five appearances in the PSL for Ajax CT having made his debut for the Mother City outfit against Polokwane City.
“That kid is just 17 years old and he put in another quality performance against quality players,” said Roger de Sa of Coetzee.
“He continues to improve with every game. Despite his age, he is showing match intelligence beyond his years,” De Sa added.
After the Maritzburg United encounter, Coetzee then teamed up with the U/19 squad at the Metropolitan Cup. Ajax beat Sundowns 1-0 in the final of the prestigious Cup, and Coetzee was part of the team on both occasions as they went on to win the Metropolitan Cup for the second consecutive year.
“It’s not always easy out there, during my PSL debut my teammates helped me throughout the game,” Coetzee told the Ajax website. “They spoke to me all the time and that helped. Even though I have played a few games in the PSL, I am still learning,” he said.
“De Sa is always giving us (the youngsters) advices, encouraging us to do well and to train hard."
“By giving us game time, he is showing confidence in the young players and that inspires me to do well every time that I play.
“My aim is to impress the coach and get as much game time as possible,” added Coetzee.
