Vermezovic lost his first league game to his former employers Chiefs, but he revealed that he is building the team for next season, after congratulating AmaKhosi

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter admitted after the game that his team's 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates was a massive result, especially after losing to Platinum Stars in Rustenburg on Wednesday.

Willard Katsande netted the only goal of the match to give Baxter his first Soweto Derby victory, and the former Bafana tactician revealed that it felt like they've just collected seven points.

"All the Derbies all over the world are the same," Baxter told reporters. "It seems like it's seven points, but it's three points. It's great when you win it and it's not so great when you lose it," he added.

"But the reality of it, I thought they dominated possession in the first half and we didn't play well with the ball, but we still created good chances. They had a couple of good chances too.

"I was so pleased with the second half, because we worked very hard. We spoke a little bit about pressing at halftime. We spoke a little bit about our transition, and I thought the players did a fantastic job in the second half. So, I am very pleased with the performance and with the three points," he said.

Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic believes that his defence could not cope with the pace of Knowledge Musona and Siphiwe Tshabalala, and added that they were very poor in defending set-plays, but he doesn't believe that his team played bad on the day.

"First of all I would like to say congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs. I think we didn't play so badly in the first half. They tried to keep possession and they made it," said Vermezovic. "We knew before the game that they (Chiefs) are very dangerous in set-pieces, and the player who scored the goal was alone in the box," he said.

"I think after the goal we pushed forward and opened up too much space for Musona and the other guys. We know how dangerous Musona is, and that our defenders are not so fast. We then relied on counter attacks, but we didn't score," he added.

Vermezovic didn't want to be drawn into whether Pirates can still mount the challenge for the league title, but he is confident that things will be different next season.

"Our main goal is to win as many games as possible until the end of the season to prepare ourselves for next season," he added.
