Mtsweni: Baxter believes in Chiefs youngsters

Kaizer Chiefs young left back Simphiwe Mtsweni says he will grab every opportunity that comes his way after making his official Amakhosi debut
Chiefs added the 19-year old Stars of Africa academy graduate into their squad at the beginning of the current season. Mtsweni made his first official appearance for the club against Namibian champions Black Africa in a Caf Champions League second leg match on Saturday.

"To be honest with you I am grateful for the opportunity that the coach (Stuart Baxter) has given me. It shows he believes in the youngsters. To include a youngster in the starting lineup on an away game, Cup game and more especially in a game of a magnitude of Caf Champions League, shows the coach's confidence in us. I just hope I did not disappoint," Mtsweni told the club's website.

The Embalenhle-born defender joined Amakhosi from Safa Soweto division side Senaone Gunners in July last year. He is competing with experienced Bafana Bafana international Tsepo Masilela for the left back position in the starting lineup.

"The game was not an easy. It was an away game even though for us it was another home away from home in terms of the support. It was okay, considering that we came here leading 3-0. I am just happy that we progressed to the next round," he added.

"It all boils down to hard work. I will keep my focus and make sure I grab every opportunity that comes my way. We have a good company of experience. The senior players help us a lot. We rely on the senior players to grow," he concluded.
