Pattison: Bidvest Wits still title contenders

The Clever Boys are currently third on the PSL log and they trail log leaders Sundowns by four points, but Pattison is adamant that Wits can still win the league

Bidvest Wits midfielder Matthew Pattison has told Goal that none of the 16 PSL teams have been consistent in terms of getting good results.

Pattison, who has been playing regularly in the Wits midfield, admitted that he was shocked to hear that former club Sundowns had lost to Mpumalanga Black Aces despite boasting the best players in the league.

“Anyone can beat anyone this season. No one believed that (Mpumalanga Black) Aces can beat Sundowns. I don’t know how, but it happened despite Sundowns being the better team on the night, and also with the best players,” Pattison told Goal.

The former Newcastle United player still believes that the inconsistency of the log leaders has put Wits back in the title race despite a slow start to the season.

However, he revealed that they need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to be serious title contenders in the next 19 league games.

“We have been consistent of late, and we have been defending very well. I think we have the best defensive record in the league. Now we have to focus on the other side of the field because we are not scoring enough goals, but we are still in the title race,” he said.
