Following reports that SuperSport United are set to sign former Kaizer Chiefs star Jabu ‘Pule’ Mahlangu, coach Cavin Johnson has confirmed that the club will not be signing the former Bafana midfielder.
According to Johnson, Mahlangu’s role at SuperSport United is to share his life experience with the younger players as well as those who are currently playing in the PSL.
“From the personal point of view I believe in giving people a second chance and that’s what we are doing at SuperSport United,” Johnson told reporters.
“He’s a player that has played for SuperSport and we are using him to speak to younger children to the get the message out there, because I believe we have a lot of Jabu Pules in our own PSL that are currently playing,” he said.
Johnson believes that Jabu deserves to be given another chance in life having made so many mistakes during his days as a footballer.
He also believes that the former Pirates man has got a lot to offer to South African football, and that there are a lot of players who lack discipline in the PSL.
“So, for sure Jabu Pule has been given a second chance in life and I think he deserves it. Not in the negative way, but in the positive way, because I believe the future has more Jabu Pules,” added Johnson.
Johnson added: “He’s an ambassador for SuperSport United and for the up and coming players, and in the PSL. He’s a lot to offer as to what mistakes shouldn’t be made going forward.”
