Despite reports suggesting that Mamelodi Sundowns and Togolese international Emmanuel Mathias have parted ways, the club has confirmed otherwise.

Sundowns’ communications manager Kabelo Mosito has told Goal that Mathias has returned to his native land only to sort out some “personal issues”.

“Mathias hasn’t left the club,” Mosito told Goal. “He is still a Sundowns player. He just went home to sort his personal issues, but he will be back to Sundowns soon,” he said.

Mathias’ deal with the Brazilians was concluded at the beginning of the season after he impressed Pitso Mosimane back in January.

However, the Togolese-born defender has not made his Sundowns debut as he hasn’t been registered with the PSL despite being on the books of the Tshwane giants.

And Mosito confirmed that Mathias has no chance of playing for Sundowns soon although the club is happy to keep him in the team.

“Yes, he is not registered with the PSL, because we have exhausted our foreign quota for the season. So, he’s not going to play until that is sorted, but we are still happy to keep him,” he added.

Sundowns have Khama Billiat, Curthbert Malajila, Mukuka Mulenga, Rashid Sumaila and Dove Wome all registered as foreigners, leaving Mathias with no place in the team.
