The Bafana defender is suffering from Achilles tendon injury, and although he had a successful operation, Sangweni will be back early next year

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that defender Siyabonga Sangweni will be out for up to 12 weeks due to an Achilles tendon injury.

Sangweni injured himself during Pirates’ 3-1 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces in the Telkom Knockout Cup on Tuesday, and he underwent a successful operation on Thursday.

“According to a report sent to Orlandopiratesfc.com earlier today [Friday], Sangweni will be out of action for up to 12 weeks,” reads the statement on the Pirates website.

The news will come as a massive blow to the Pirates technical team, as Sangweni was starting to establish himself back into the starting line-up.

However, the Pirates faithful will be relieved to learn that Sangweni is currently out of hospital and should begin his rehabilitation programme in the next few days.

Meanwhile, the club has confirmed that Sifiso Myeni started doing light training as he recovers from a groin strain, while Thandani Ntshumayelo will receive the full prognosis of his injured foot later today.
