Orlando Pirates have reacted towards Benson Mhlongo’s claims that the Buccaneers nearly ended his football career when he was injured while still playing for them in 2009.

Mhlongo revealed immediately after the Platinum Stars MTN 8 victory over Pirates at the weekend that he was asked to sign “insurance papers” to say he will never recover and play football again, but Mickey Modisane, speaking on behalf of the club, says Mhlongo is just seeking attention.

“Orlando Pirates is not going to entertain Benson [Mhlongo]. We are asking ourselves why is he bringing this up now? Why? He certainly needs attention,” Modisane told Goal.

Modisane said Pirates are really not interested in debating with Mhlongo, as they are focusing on doing well in their upcoming Caf Champions League first leg semi-final against Esperance.

“We cannot comment on that. We have other important issues to worry about than Mhlongo’s comments. We are playing the Caf Champions League semi-final against Esperance this weekend and that’s where our focus is,” said the Pirates PRO.
