Khune: Chiefs need to wake up and forget about last season

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune believes that his team needs to pull up their socks
Speaking exclusively to Goal, AmaKhosi leader Khune underlined what his club needs to do to defend their titles.

“We did not start on a high, positive note and that needs to change. The reality of the matter is that we need to start showing that we mean business by winning matches from now on,” said Khune.

The challenge is to break teams down who come to sit and defend, but being champions also motivates their opponents to impress on the big stage.

“Unfortunately, other teams will not take a back seat and give us the three points just because we are the champions. We need to go out there and fight hard and make sure that we collect as many points as we can,” he said.

With their next fixture against Maritzburg United over the weekend, Khune is hoping for an improved performance from his teammates.

“We are hoping for positive results. We have a bit of a break, although many of us were playing for our national teams, but that should give us an edge,” he said.
