Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed that defender Clayton Daniels will certainly leave the club despite the closing of the transfer window last Friday.

Daniels and Sundowns are close to reaching an agreement that will see him receiving his clearance to be able to sign for the club of his choice.

“We are almost close to reaching the agreement with Daniels. The club will give him the clearance so he can sign with the club of his choice,” the Sundowns official told Goal.

The former Ajax Cape Town player Daniels has not been part of the Sundowns squad recently after making his intensions known to the club that he wants to leave.

“He hasn’t been part of the team since he told the club that he would love to leave. We tried to loan him out, but nothing came out of it,” added the Sundowns official.

The 29-year-old Daniels is reportedly on his way to Bloemfontein Celtic, but his move to the Free State capital will only be completed once he receives his clearance from Sundowns.

It was always going to be a daunting task for Daniels to command a regular place in the Sundowns defence with Alje Schut, Wayne Arendse and Rashid Sumaila all competing for the same position.
