Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques has hinted to Goal that striker Edward Manqele could be handed his first start against Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday night.

Manqele started on the bench in Swallows’ 1-0 win over AmaTuks in their opening league encounter having joined the team on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and Marques believes the Chiefs game is what Manqele needs to regain his form.

“Edward needs his confidence back and it doesn’t get better than this [Chiefs game]. I am aware that he scored against them while at Stars and again while at Sundowns last season, but that’s just stats,” Marques told Goal.

“He joined us late. Actually, a day before the start of the new season, and that is why we decided against throwing him into the deep end,” he said.

Marques feels Manqele has settled in well and he is starting to understand his teammates, but he believes the mental fitness of the player is still not up to scratch.

“Look, Manqele still needs to be mentally strong after frustrating times at Sundowns where he didn’t play as many games as he would have liked, but he has settled in well with his new teammates,” added Marques.
