The Pirates defender has struggled to recover from a niggling injury he suffered immediately after the Afcon tournament
Sangweni has featured in two of the Pirates’ friendly matches and played the entire game during Pirates’ win over Polokwane City on Tuesday afternoon.
Physiotherapist John Williams confirmed on the club website that the Bafana centre-back has fully recovered and that Sangweni needs to work on his match fitness.

“Siya [Sangweni] is fine. He is training with the rest of the guys. All that is left for him is to work on regaining match fitness and for him to fight to get a look in from the technical team,” said Williams.
The 31-year-old Sangweni should be ready for the two-legged Soweto Derby later this month, as he has been greatly missed by Pirates during big games.
Pirates will welcome Zamalek in the Caf Champions League on Saturday night, but Sangweni is unlikely to play a role, as coach Roger de Sa doesn’t want to rush him into action.
