Teko Modise is no longer the Mamelodi Sundowns captain

Pitso Mosimane has announced Alje Schut as the new club captain after a very consistent season he had with Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced defender Alje Schut as their new club captain with immediate effect.

Schut takes over from former Orlando Pirates midfielder Teko Modise who was handed the captain's armband last year.

Modise's future as the club’s captain has been subject of speculation for the past few weeks with Pitso Mosimane clearly looking for a new leader.

Mosimane often criticized his senior players during their worst ever PSL season that saw them finish outside the top eight for the first time since the early 2000's.

The 31-year-old Modise was inconsistent for the Brazilians this past season, and although his form improved at Sundowns, he couldn’t help the Tshwane side finish in the top eight last season.

Schut is expected to lead Sundowns in their league opener against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday afternoon.
