Marques: I wanted Mayambela at Moroka Swallows, but Leon Prins said No

The 25-year-old Mayambela was told that he won’t be given a contract at Swallows despite impressing coach Zeca Marques

Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques has told Goal that the decision not to sign former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mark Mayambela was taken by the club’s management.

Marques confirmed that he wanted to sign the player who’s his contract came to an end at Pirates last month, but he was later informed that Mayambela will not be registered.

“I wanted to sign him, but the club was against the move. I think Leon (Prins) can give you a better explanation regarding that, because he is the one in charge of the club. It was not my call,” Marques told Goal.

The Swallows mentor believes that a huge salary demand might be the reason why Leon Prins, the club boss, decided against signing Mayambela.

“I thought he will be a suitable player for us, but sometimes huge salaries complicate things and I think that was the main reason not to sign Mark,” he added.

Mayambela is now believed to be heading to Turkey where he will have a week-long trial with an unnamed club, although he could find himself at Bloem Celtic next season.
