thumbnail Hello,

The Pirates number one has been solid at the back, and he believes that their strikers will score enough goals to seal victory against AmaKhosi

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa has told Goal that their previous result against AC Leopards doesn’t make them the underdogs going into this afternoon’s Soweto derby.

The two Soweto giants, Pirates and Chiefs, will meet in the Carling Black Label Cup at the FNB Stadium, and Meyiwa said they are ready for the PSL champions.

“We are ready for Chiefs. We know we did not do well in our last competitive match, but the previous results don’t count when it comes to the Soweto derby,” Meyiwa told Goal.

Meyiwa has had an impressive record when playing against Chiefs, with only one defeat since he graduated to the first team.

However, the 25-year-old shot-stopper doesn’t want to rely on past performances, as he looks to guide Bucs to their third successive Black Label Cup triumph.

“I have been enjoying myself whenever I play against Chiefs and I am hoping to continue doing well this afternoon,” he said.

Meyiwa, who stopped two crucial penalties against TP Mazembe in the Caf Champions League in May, added that this year’s encounter will not be decided on penalties although he is prepared for the challenge should either team fail to win in regulation time.

“We have been practicing the penalties and I am ready, but I don’t think the game will even get there, because we have quality strikers and I am sure they will score enough goals for us to win in 90 minutes,” added Meyiwa.
