Manchester City will play their second and final match of their tour to South Africa, when they face Durban-based outfit AmaZulu on Thursday night at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Losing 2-0 in their opening game against SuperSport United, City will seek to showcase their strength against Craig Rosslee’s Usuthu, who may fear a Blues backlash of grand proportions.

Manuel Pelligrini was not overly disappointed by his sides’ lacklustre outing against SuperSport United, but the Chilean will expect a wholly different performance in Durban.

Jack Rodwell, a player who did not see much game time under former coach Roberto Mancini, cited a lack of fitness as the reason behind Sunday’s loss. However, the midfielder is confident that the side will improve against AmaZulu.

"Supersport were a lot fitter than us; we were all a bit leggy," Rodwell told the Times.

"It is obviously disappointing to get beaten, we wanted to win. It was our first game back, with a lot of fitness missing from a lot of players, so I think that was key. Next game we'll get better. The main objective is to be flying come the first game of the season.

"It was a chance for us to show our new manager what we've got. Hopefully we can improve on the result on the next game.”

AmaZulu will see the match as an opportunity to give their new signings time on the pitch. Msekeli Mvalo, Letladi Madubanya and Mohammed Awal Issa have all joined the club on permanent deals during the transfer window.

Striker S'thembiso Ngcobo, on-loan from Kaizer Chiefs, will also be tested against some of the best defenders in the world.
