Mamelodi Sundowns have released a statement that they have reached an agreement with the South African Football Association (Safa) to allow the selected players to represent Bafana in the Cosafa Cup in July.
Pitso Mosimane would have liked to work with the players during their pre-season training, but Sundowns feel that the country needs these players.
“Despite the tournament being played in non-Fifa dates and the Brazilians being engaged in hectic pre-season preparations during the period, it was decided that the players be released to represent the country,” read the statement on the Sundowns website.

The Brazilians have agreed with Igesund that only three players will be released with Tebogo Langernan being the only player that will remain for the club’s pre-season.
“Sundowns have agreed with Igesund to release three of the four requested players, which means Wayne Sandilands, Hlompho Kekana and Jabulani Shongwe will be the players to participate in the Cosafa tourney,” the statement continued.
Sundowns’ media officer Thulani Thuswa explains the omission of Langerman in the Bafana squad for the Cosafa Cup.

“We have a very tight pre-season schedule, because we will be in Polokwane then off to Ghana to play against tough opponents such as Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. So, we need balance in the team.
“Punch Masenamela has just returned from a long term injury and we don’t have enough cover on the left. It’s not like Sundowns don’t want to release the player,” Thuswa told Goal.
