Bobby Motaung has confirmed that all the AmaKhosi players selected by Gordon Igesund for the Cosafa Cup won’t be released
Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has hit back at Gordon Igesund’s decision to include five AmaKhosi players in the Bafana squad for the upcoming Cosafa Cup despite telling the national team coach that the Chiefs players won’t be available for the tournament, because they are tired.
Motaung believes that tournaments like the Cosafa Cup are designed to identify young talented players and not meant for stars like Tshabalala and Letsholonyane.

“We believe the Cosafa Cup should be a breeding ground to blood young players for the future and not for selecting seasoned stars like Siphiwe Tshabalala, Bernard Parker, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Tefu Mashamaite and Eric Mathoho,” Bobby Motaung was quoted in the Times media.
Although Bobby failed to at least release fringe players as Igesund had initially requested, it has become evident that he is against the idea of Chiefs players participating in the tournament.
“Igesund says he subscribes to this view. Then he goes and selects all the best local-based Bafana players who are available, which presumably means the young players chosen will do nothing more than warm the bench as reserves,” he said.
Igesund is expected to replace the five players within the next few days, as he assured the nation that the exclusion of the Chiefs players won’t disrupt his plans for the Cosafa Cup.
