PSL Transfer Wrap: Ajax Cape Town target Webster

The Urban Warriors are in negotiations with Scottish club Hearts to sign centre-back Andy Webster

Ajax Cape Town are looking to add experience and class to their defence by reeling in Scottish international Andy Webster from his SPL club Hearts according to the Sowetan newspaper.

The 32-year-old defender is nearing the end of his contract at Hearts and the cash-strapped club is offering the player at a cheaper price to the Urban Warriors.

Webster is set to play Croatia in a World Cup qualifier this week, while negotiations surrounding his future continue between Ajax and Hearts.

Ajax Cape Town CEO George Comitis confirmed to the Sowetan that negotiations are underway and is striving to beef up his defence ahead of the new season. The future of Matthew Booth is still unknown while former Orlando Pirates defender Robyn Johannes has also been linked to joining the Urban Warriors.

Webster’s presence in the PSL would make him the first full international Scottish player to ply his trade on South African soil.

In other news, Soccer Laduma has reported that William Katsande could move from Kaizer Chiefs to German club Hamburger SV next season, which would be a major loss for the PSL champions.

Bloemfontein Celtic have signed young keeper Sebastian Bailey from the Farouk Abrahams' Goalkeeper and Life Skills Academy. Bailey was signed after attending trials with the club.
