Bafana and Chiefs’ goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune walked away with four awards and he handed his Goalkeeper of the Season award to Rainer Dinkelacker at the PSL end of season function

Goal PSL Player of the Season Itumeleng Khune was on Sunday night honoured by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for his outstanding performance during the 2012/2013 season.

Khune kept 12 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for AmaKhosi and was instrumental in Chiefs’ winning the Nedbank Cup for the first time since 2006.

Only 25, Khune was named goalkeeper of the year for the second time in five years having won the same award back in 2008 when he helped AmaKhosi lift the Telkom Knockout Cup.

The Bafana shot-stopper beat stiff competition from Orlando Pirates’ Senzo Meyiwa and SuperSport United’s Ronwen Williams to walk away with the award.

Surprisingly, Khune handed his Goalkeeper of the Season award to Chiefs’ goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker as a symbol of appreciation for his contribution to a remarkable career that he has had both as Chiefs and Bafana keeper.

Khune was also named the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament having helped AmaKhosi complete a double this season with a win over SuperSport United this past weekend.

Finally, the Chiefs skipper was awarded with the 2012/2013 Footballer of the Year for consistently doing well for Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana the entire season.

Khune was later given the responsibility to lead the national team after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
