Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has told Goal that he felt like he let the team down after failing to finish inside the top eight teams, following their 2-2 draw against the improved Bidvest Wits side on Saturday.
Despite failing to achieve his mandate, Mosimane should be proud of his effort looking at the fact that Sundowns were bottom of the log when he took over in December last year.
“It’s a bitter pill to swallow. We wanted the top eight finish so badly, but it wasn’t meant to be. Our boys fought hard. We did everything we could, but I feel like I have let the team down,” Mosimane told Goal.
Sundowns finished the season 10th on the log and will not be part of the MTN 8 competition at the beginning of next season and Mosimane believes that the tournament won’t be the same without the Tshwane outfit.
“There is no doubt that next season’s MTN 8 won’t be the same without Sundowns. Fans want it to be competitive with all the big teams there, but we cannot be there and we are disappointed as well,” added Mosimane. The Brazilians humiliated Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the MTN 8 at the beginning of the season, but didn’t go far in the tournament as they were beaten by ultimate winners Moroka Swallows in the semifinals.
