A late goal by Cuthbert Malajila separated the two teams as Maritzburg got their third goal, which saw them beating Pirates 3-2 at the Orlando Stadium
Orlando Pirates would have loved to finish the league at least win a win but they will have to settle for the third position after losing against Maritzburg United, as Platinum Stars were not doing any favours for them either.
Malajila scored from inside the box from a corner received from veteran Delron Buckley and the rest was history as the striker finished off well.
At the beginning of the match it was Pirates who had taken the early lead in the 16thminute with a goal that came from Tlou Segolela inside the box.
Even after this goal, Pirates seemed to be in control of the match, but United did not just throw the towel as they kept on putting pressure. This saw the teams going to the half time break with Pirates leading 1-0.
In the second half, Maritzburg came back strong and that effort was awarded when Heinrich Isaacs brought the game back as he scored the equalising goal for the KwaZulu-Natal based team.
Three minutes after that, Pirates came back strong once again and this time it was Khethokwakhe Masuku who scored in the 60th minute.
In the 82nd minute Ayanda Gcaba brought down Cuthbert which resulted in United getting a free kick and they made sure that they capitalized on that opportunity. Ryan De Jongh scored a great goal for United inside the six yard box.
This created lot of conflict as Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa found himself getting booked for disrespecting the referee.
When the referee added additional time, United took the advantage again and scored their final goal which ensures that they finish the league with a win.
