Orlando Pirates’ Benni McCarthy is one week away from full recovery

Pirates confirm on the club website that Benni McCarthy, Taksure Chinyama and Lehlogonolo Masalesa will soon join the rest of the squad as they are making a steady progress

Orlando Pirates have revealed that striker Benni McCarthy will soon join his teammates, as the former Porto marksman is still recovering from a minor injury.

McCarthy reportedly injured himself three days before the Pirates game against TP Mazembe, but his return to fitness will surely boost Pirates’ hopes of doing well in the group stages of the Caf Champions League.

Also expected to join the rest of the squad is the Zimbabwean striker Takesure Chinyama who has done tremendously well for the Buccaneers this season.

“Bucs technical team will have to wait one more week before welcoming back to the team forwards Benni McCarthy and Takesure Chinyama,”  reads the Pirates website.

Meanwhile, midfielder Lehlogonolo Masalesa could make his return this weekend, but he still needs to be assessed by the Pirates’ physical trainer Joseph Borges before the end of the week.

Pirates have been unfortunate with injuries this season and have dropped vital points that would have helped them retain their league title.

However, the Sea Robbers are still hopeful of the Caf Champions League trophy before the end of this year, but they will have to wait to see who their opponents for the group stages will be, as the draw will be conducted on Tuesday, May 14 in Cairo.
