Goal spoke with Bidvest Wits coach Clive Barker who shared his future plans and also expressed the way he feels about the team’s performance this season
Bidvest Wits coach Clive Barker has told Goal that he was impressed with the results against his former club AmaZulu on Saturday afternoon.
Barker admitted that it was never going to be easy to play against the Usuthu side that has improved so much under coach Graig Rosslee.
“Fantastic results against AmaZulu. I think we planned well, because AmaZulu have been doing well and playing against them was always going to be a challenge,” Barker told Goal.
The Dog, as Clive is affectionately known, revealed that he wouldn’t be disappointed even if the team fails to hold onto their fourth spot, because the aim was to finish inside the eight top teams.
However, Barker feels that with the impressive performance that they have displayed so far this season, they certainly deserve to finish in the top four.
“I was asked to save the team from relegation , but when things got back to normal then the top eight finish was an objective. We managed to secure the top eight spot and now the target is to finish in the top four, but overall it has been a great season for us,” he said.
With reports suggesting that Bidvest Wits are still searching for a coach that will take over from Barker next season, the former Bafana mentor is positive that he will be at Wits next season although his future will be decided on Tuesday, but he would love to stay on as a coach.
“I am having a meeting with the management on Tuesday to discuss my future at the club. I might stay on as something else. It all depends on the club, but I will would love to coach this team next season,” added Barker.
