One of the team officials at Wits confirmed to Goal that they have managed to convince the former Bafana Bafana shot stopper to rejoin them for the upcoming season.
“There is not much I can reveal at the moment, but Josephs has signed a pre-contract with us (Wits) for a move that will certainly take place in the next few weeks,” the Clever Boys official told Goal.
Josephs’ contract with Pirates expires at the end of the current season and he hasn’t been offered a new deal by the Buccaneers which enabled him to negotiate with a team of his choice.
The 32-year-old has had a frustrating season since been dropped by Roger De Sa following Pirates’ defeat to Bloem Celtic in the Telkom Knockout Cup quarterfinal late last year and his season has been capped with recurring injuries.
He has since lost his number one spot to Senzo Meyiwa who has been doing a great job for the Buccaneers between the sticks.
Wits have been unlucky with their goalkeepers this season, with four of them sustaining injuries towards the end of the season and that forced the 45-year-old Andre Arendse to come out of retirement and help the team until the end of the season.
“He’s had a lot of injuries, but he is still in great shape and we are confident that he will add value to this team (Wits),” said the official.
Josephs left Bidvest Wits in 2008 and signed with Orlando Pirates where he has had a successful career, helping them to two league titles amongst others.
With Pirates now guaranteed six Caf Champions League matches this year, it remains to be seen who will fill the void left by Josephs although the club chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza, made it known that Pirates will definitely add a few signings to their squad for a tough season ahead.
