Ajax Cape Town confirms that they have made a request to the PSL to allow them to host Liverpool FC on May 21
Ajax Cape Town PRO Shooz Mekutu has told Goal that they have made a special request to the PSL for their clash against Liverpool to take place on Tuesday, May 21 as confirmed by both teams on Monday afternoon.
Mekutu didn’t want to divulge as to whether they would consider postponing their much anticipated clash with Liverpool should the PSL turn their request down.
“We have made a special request to the PSL for that specific day (May 21) and we are still waiting for their response,” Mekutu told Goal.
“We haven’t considered changing the date whatsoever, because the contract was signed and it is just a matter of PSL approving that specific date,” he said.
The PSL is reportedly against the idea of Ajax Cape Town hosting Liverpool on May 21, because it falls within the PSL season as the last official game of the season (Nedbank Cup final) will be played on May 25.
Mekutu said that they wouldn’t have made any request to the PSL before agreeing with Liverpool and that they wanted to approach the league after everything has been finalized.
“It wouldn’t have made sense to approach the PSL with something that we were not even sure of. We had to agree with Liverpool first. Therefore, it is with this reason that we have approached the league with a done deal,” added Mekutu.
