Dikwena skipper Vuyo Mere tells Goal that the players are confident of winning the league title despite coach Cavin Johnson’s claims that Chiefs are already the champions
Platinum Stars captain Vuyo Mere has told Goal that they are more than determined to win the PSL title this season and he added that their coach Cavin Johnson fuelled the belief within the players when he claimed that Kaizer Chiefs are already the champions.
Dikwena are second on the PSL log, three points behind Chiefs with only two games to go and Mere believes that they are still in the title race.
“Cavin’s words motivated us. Many thought we will throw the towel when he said Chiefs have won the league, but his words actually restored the belief within my teammates,” Mere told Goal.
“Our aim this season is none other than lifting the PSL title and all the players are confident,” he said.
Mere is also positive that Dikwena can absorb the pressure that comes with being the title chasers and he added that experienced players such as Benson Mhlongo and Henrico Botes have played a major role in helping the youngsters to stay focused.
“Of course there is pressure, but I think the real pressure is on Chiefs and Pirates to deliver. Other than the senior players have played an important role in ensuring that these youngsters remain focused. I am talking about Benson, Henrico and others,” added Mere.
