Goal.com has been informed by a source within the Pirates camp that Benni McCarthy could be playing his football elsewhere in the new season.
McCarthy’s future has been hanging in balance since the appointment of coach Roger De Sa late last year, having had a squabble with De Sa and Eric Tinkler while the duo were still coaching at Wits in 2011.
“All the players whose contracts expire have been called to meet with the chairman for negotiations. Moeneeb Josephs and Moses Mbuyane are amongst them, but there hasn’t been a word about Benni McCarthy as yet,” said the source who asked to remain anonymous.
Our source believes that McCarthy, De Sa and Tinkler have bottled their issue professionally, but remains confident that Benni hasn’t forgotten.
“There is too much going on, but they have hidden it like professionals. Remember Benni said he forgave them, but he won’t forget?,” revealed our source.
With Rodger De Sa and Eric Tinkler unlikely to leave Bucs anytime soon, it is believed that Dr Irvin Khoza may prefer to lose McCarthy than the two coaches as he hopes to bring peace within his team.
“The chairman is happy with the technical team and you know how patient he is with coaches. I think he will choose Rodger over Benni,” added the source.
McCarthy hasn’t seen much of a game time under De Sa and although he has long recovered from an injury he suffered against Brazil last year, McCarthy hasn’t been played much because the coach feels that the former West Ham United striker lacks match fitness.
