Chippa Mpengesi has decided to fire coach Wilfred Mugeyi following a number of unimpressive results
With only six league games to play before the end of the PSL season, Chippa United have parted ways with their head coach Wilfred Mugeyi following their 2-1 defeat to SuperSport United on Wednesday night.
Mugeyi was hired back in February to try and lift Chippa United off the relegation zone, but it hasn’t been easy for the Zimbabwean coach and the owner of the team Chippa Mpengesi decided to fire him today (Thursday).
Chippa United have lost their last six league games. Hence, they find themselves at the bottom of the log with only 16 points from 24 games and their chances of surviving the relegation diminish in every game.
They also failed to make any impressions in the cup competitions this season and were humiliated by the NFD side United FC in the Nedbank Cup a few weeks ago.
Mugeyi becomes the fourth coach to walk on the plank at Chippa United this season. The other coaches who were shown the door by the impatient Chippa Mpengesi include Roger Sikhakhane, Manqoba Mngqithi and Farouk Abrahams.
Mpengesi is expected to make a formal announcement in the next few hours on who will take over at his club now that Mugeyi is gone.
