De Sa: Most PSL teams are happy to play for a draw against Pirates

Frustrated Bucs coach Roger De Sa believes that all the 15 PSL teams are more than happy to settle for a draw when playing Pirates

Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa admitted that his side couldn’t penetrate Tuks defence in last night’s PSL clash at the FNB Stadium. Neither sides could score, as the match ended 0-0.

The defending champions had to settle for a point against PSL rookies and De Sa believes that every team that comes up against Pirates play for a draw and Tuks were no exception.

“I thought they came here for a point. They sat back and wanted to catch us on counter, but we got to get used to that, because most teams do that against us. We wanted to break them down the earlier the better, but tonight (Saturday) we tried and tried, but failed to put the ball in the back of the net,” said Roger De Sa after the match.

De Sa believes his players need to improve going into their next game, and he admitted that Pirates could have lost the game in the dying minutes.

“I thought we tried to force too much through the middle and the plan was to go wide. Little mistakes like ball passing, but I think we could have lost it in the end,” said De Sa.

University of Pretoria head coach Steve Barker was however, satisfied with a single point against Pirates, but he also believes that his team created enough chances to walk away with maximum points.

“It could have gone either way. I thought we created enough chances to win the game. So I am very proud of my boys this evening (Saturday). The effort that they put in, the character that they showed, togetherness and team unity,” said Steve Barker after the match.

Despite being so impressed with his team, Barker believes that Tuks can now focus on doing well at home, as they are looking to finish inside the top eight.

“The players put their bodies on the line. It was tough going out there, but I am really proud of them.  Every week they make tons of effort that they are putting. I mean to come here and play Chiefs and get a point and also to get a point against Pirates, I think that’s very good. We just got to make sure that we improve our home form,” said Barker.
