“You know Benni is always leading by example. He is a leader, always talking to the youngsters. He is always helping me like a captain. We always chatting together,” Lekgwathi told Goal.com.

“I think as a team we miss him, because he was scoring goals for us last season. If you look at our team now, we are lacking in that department because we only depending on Collins Mbesuma and the other guys but I know when he comes back he’s going to score goals for us,” he said.

The veteran defender didn’t want to be drawn into whether McCarthy could leave Pirates at the end of the season, but Lekgwathi would certainly love to have Benni in the team for as long as he is playing for the PSL champions.

McCarthy, together with goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, have fully recovered from injuries and are available for selection against University of Pretoria on Saturday night.
