Dikwena head coach Cavin Johnson tells Goal.com that his team will cope without their influential winger Thuso Phala who will be joining SuperSport United in the upcoming season
Johnson believes that Phala had every right to sign with United because his contract with Stars is due to expire at the end of the season. He revealed that they have accepted their loss to United.
“We are okay with it. Nothing has changed in the team. He has been signed by SuperSport, and rightly so because his contract with Platinum Stars is coming to an end. No bad blood between Thuso and any of the Platinum Stars’ officials. Everybody has to move at some stage, and everybody has to change,” Johnson told Goal.com.
Johnson also revealed that Phala confided to him upon his intention to leave Platinum Stars. However, the coach confessed to Goal.com that he didn’t try and persuade the speedy winger to stay at the club.
“I talk to my players every week about everything. So I was aware that he was going to leave the club at the end of the season. I didn’t persuade Thuso to stay. Actually I don’t persuade any of my players. He’s been there, played for both Chiefs and Sundowns. There was no need to persuade him,” said Johnson.
Johnson said that he is not going to search for the replacement of the Bafana winger because they have enough quality players to do the job out on the right hand side of the pitch. He singled Lindokuhle Mbatha and veteran Patrick Malokase as possible replacements for Phala.
“I am not looking to buy any specific player in the new season because I think we have enough cover on the right. We still have Lindo Mbatha, Patrick Malokase and Nkambule. No doubt Thuso was our first choice in the position, but I will have to make one of these players my number one. Hopefully they can rise to the occasion,” concluded Cavin Johnson.
