Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa has told Goal.com that he was satisfied with the performance of defender Siyabonga Sangweni in the Soweto derby played last Saturday.
The under-fire coach admitted that he took a gamble by including Sangweni in his 18-man squad to face Chiefs, because the Bafana defender trained with the rest of the team only on Thursday.
“He was exceptional. Although we could see that he’s not match fit, but I think he marshalled the defence very well. He only trained with us on Thursday, but he brought stability into our defence,” said De Sa.
De Sa couldn’t be drawn into whether he will continue to play Sangweni in their upcoming games, but said he will use the PSL two-week break to recharge his batteries.
“It’s difficult to predict, but with the PSL break in the next two weeks, I think he will be able to get his fitness back. He’s very important to us,” added De Sa.
