Mugeyi’s future at Chippa might be in danger after losing to Free State
New Chippa United coach Wilfred Mugeyi's future is looking uncertain with a disastrous 3-0 defeat against Free State Stars on debut
Starting a new job usually means you are given time to stamp your authority and signature on the team, but the club Chippa United is better known to demand immediate results.
The club has changed coaches after three matches in the past, so the 3-0 defeat should be a first warning for Mugeyi who wouldn't want his 18-month contract terminated prematurely.
One might have expected a defeat since the new coach is still trying to find his feet, but this might not be what Chippa United have in mind. United created clear chances to score, but at this point in time, results will be more important than the style of their performance.
United still hold the record of the most coach dismissals in a PSL season as Mugeyi is the fifth coach to offer his service this season.
On the positive note, Free State Stars seemed to have found their playing style, as they are still in the top five of the PSL log.
Steve Kompela’s decision of giving Danny Venter an opportunity to earn his debut with the Stars, paid off as he netted two goals. Venter’s presence with Free State Stars might work well with Kompela’s plan as they might be one of the contenders in future if they keep up their good form.
