thumbnail Hello,

After impressing in Belgium, Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has decided to invite Darren Keet to train with the SA squad

Although Keets name is not in the squad list that will participate in the World Cup qualifier against Botswana in Durban, he will be part of the squad for the friendly against Zimbabwe.

Addressing the media in Durban after announcing his squad, Igesund said that he had never seen Keet play before.

“A lot has been said about him and for that reason I have decided to give him a chance. He will be part of the squad and training with the team for the whole week where my goalkeeper coach will assess him and give me feedback,’ said Igesund.

There is stiff competition in the goalkeeping department with Itumeleng Khune in superb form for Kaizer Chiefs and Senzo Meyiwa having played incredibly well for Orlando Pirstes in the Caf Champions League, so the shot stopper will have to work extra hard.

“We cannot change what is not broken, as you know the goalkeeping department is very strong, as there is also Wayne Sandilands who did well during the Cosafa as well as Ronwen Williams. I think it is only fair that I give him (Keet) a chance and assess what he has to offer,” he said.

Igesund confirmed that Keet will get a chance to play in the international friendly against Zimbabwe after the Botswana match.
