You could see the disappointment and anger in the Bafana head coach's face as he announced that Anele Ngcongca will not be joining the team
Gordon Igesund was bitterly disappointed that the Racing Genk defender hasn't travelled for the Bafana game. The coach phoned him late on Tuesday, but the response was that the player was not fit enough to travel due to injury.
Ngcongca was expected to join the team on Tuesday along with Tokelo Rantie, but that did not materialize. Instead the Bafana coach said that all he got from his club were excuses.
“I am quite disappointed with the Racing Genk club for their decision to deny Ngcongca an opportunity to come and play for his country. The sad part of it all is that this is a Fifa week and they are aware of that.
“Late last night I got a call from the coach saying Anele is injured and I was shocked as I don’t know where that came from. A few hours back we had spoken to him and he was so excited about coming to play for the national team,” said Igesund.

The Bafana coach said he will be replacing Ngcongca, but he will use the players that he already has in his squad.
"Whenever I choose the squad, I always select different players who play different positions, so we will not be having any replacements. Nthethe can play at right back and Gumede as well,” said Igesund.
The coach said they now need to be positive and focus on the game at hand.
“I have reported the matter to Safa and they will take it up with Fifa because there are rules and relegations that must be followed.
“One might ask why did I then allow Orlando Pirates players not to be part of the squad? Well, the situation is different here. Pirates are playing an important tournament and they are representing the country. As for Ngcongca’s club they are just showing disrespect to us,” he said.
