Williams disappointed to miss out on Bafana squad

SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams told Goal.com how he hopes to get ahead of the likes of Wayne Sandilands in the Bafana squad

SuperSport keeper Williams was overlooked once again in the recent Bafana squad that played in the World Cup qualifier against Central Africa Republic, and said he understands that he needs to bide his time.

“I was quite disappointed but that is just part of the game. I will continue to work hard and I believe my time will come in due time. I do feel that I am ready to play in the national team and still have hope that I will get a call-up soon,” said Williams.

The goalkeeper also suffered a knee injury after the match against Mamelodi Sundowns but assured Goal.com that he will play during the Black Leopards match over the weekend.

“Yes, I am injured, but I am training and I will play over the weekend. It is a bit sore, that is why I am not doing heavy training, I am just taking things one step at a time,” he said.

He also said that his not getting a call-up to the national team has nothing to do with his injury.

“The injury came after the squad was already announced and so I doubt it had any impact. At the moment I just have to continue pushing myself hard until I have recovered fully.

“Everything has its own time, and the fact that there are some people that believe I have a future in the national team is something great. I must make sure that I keep on being consistent in all the matches that I play and I am sure something positive will come out from there,” added Williams.
