Thabo Matlaba's sublime long range strike broke the resistance of Central African Republic on Saturday, during a match where Bafana Bafana struggled to find composure and punish their opponents in Cape Town. As he has done on numerous occassions for Orlando Pirates this season, Matlaba fired in an unstoppable drive from 40 yards out, which looped in over CAR goalkeeper Lembet and sent the stadium into raptures. Defensively, Matlaba's constant attacking moves did not hurt Bafana Bafana's chances as the left-back made sure to cover as much ground as possible during yet another man-of-the-match performance for the national side. As he continues to strive to be Gordon Igesund's first choice left-back, Matlaba's impeccable long-range shooting and speed will do him no harm in the future.

Congratulations to Thabo Matlaba Goal.com's 23nd South Africa Player of the Week winner!

Honourable Mention

Ithumeleng Khune- South Africa

Khune showed that the burden of captaincy certainly did not affect his concentration, with yet another five-star performance in goal for the national side against CAR. Some superb acrobatic saves were backed up by a better display in the air by South Africa's number one.

May Mahlangu - South Africa

The midfielder was once again an inspiration in attack against CAR, as his bursts of pace, passing ability and vision makes him a vital cog in South Africa's squad. He was kept out by a brilliant save from CAR's Lembet and provided Parker with a deft pass to score the second goal of the game.
Bernard Parker- South Africa

Nkoana made the perfect impact as a substitute for SuperSport during their 2-1 Nedbank cup victory against Vasco da Gama, scoring the winner with a sublime effort which kept the defending champions in the mix for cup glory once more.

Each week our team of writers will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com South Africa, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday.

You can also help us choose a worthy recipient of the weekly accolade by leaving your nominations and comments. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration.

It won't necessarily be the best player in the country - at least not usually - but whoever we crown will have accomplished something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...
