Igesund: Bafana are not a finished product as yet

Gordon Igesund believes Bafana have gained confidence following Bafana’s 2-0 win over Central African Republic at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night

Bafana coach Gordon Igesund was very excited and satisfied with the performance of his team against Central African Republic in the 2014 World Cup qualifier match played on Saturday night.

Igesund was also happy to have kept the clean sheet against CAR and believes that they have reached their expectations, but feels that there is still a room for improvement.

“I was very pleased with the performance of the team. We kept a clean sheet and we did what was expected of us. Three points were crucial to keep alive our chances of going to Brazil. There is still a lot of work to be done because we are not a finished product as yet,” said Igesund after the match.

The 56-year-old coach believes that Bafana are growing as a team, and said that last night’s result has given them a huge confidence going forward.

“I am also excited that every day we are growing as a team and there is a lot of camaraderie in the squad. The result has given us huge confidence and a good platform,” said Igesund.

Igesund revealed that he is confident that Bafana are capable of going to CAR and come back with a result, looking at how their opponents played last night but he thinks that Bafana can achieve  that only if they can convert opportunities that they have been creating.

“After tonight’s (Saturday) match, I am confident that we can go there and get a result. Even though it’s not going to be easy, we are capable of doing well in their backyard, as long as we continue to create chances and convert them. It’s unfortunate we took wrong decisions in some instances tonight, but it’s something we can work on,” added Igesund.
