South Africans Abroad: Steven Pienaar sent off at Goodison Park

South Africans Abroad: Steven Pienaar sent off at Goodison Park

Latest Khune: I have learnt a lot from former Bafana captains Previous Next Bafana’s Sangweni out of the World Cup qualifier

Many South African European stars were in action this weekend, with Darren Keet finally keeping the ball out of Kortjik's net while Steven Pienaar saw red against Manchester City

ENGLAND
In England there was a day to remember and forget for Steven Pienaar, as he was sent off during Everton's emphatic 2-0 win over Manchester City at Goodison Park. The win means Everton still have a chance to push for European qualification, but Schillo will be missing from their next game due to the sending off.

Kagisho Dikgacoi also experienced a poor day at the office against Brighton and Hove Albion, as the midfielder earned a yellow card during a 3-0 defeat for his Championship side Crystal Palace, which has dented the Eagle's chances to land straight promotion into the Premier League.

Dean Furman almost made the perfect start at Doncaster Rovers with a late effort on goal against Portsmouth, but the midfielder was denied by Pompey's goalkeeper as the match ended 1-1.

GREECE
Bongani Khumalo's week only got worse in Greece, as the former Bafana captain was left out of PAOK's starting line-up and was not given an opportunity to take to the pitch as a substitute during his side's victory against Panathanikos.
NETHERLANDS

Thulani Serero did not see any game time during Ajax's thrilling 3-2 win over AZ Alkmaar which keeps them one point clear of PSV Eindhoven at the top the Eredivise standings.

BELGIUM

Darren Keet was on hand to secure a point for his struggling Kortjik side, which was able to hold onto a 0-0 draw against OH Leuven. Keet has been leaking goals in recent games and will have been thrilled with a better performance with the gloves on.

Anele Ngcongca played the full ninety minutes during Genk's 5-1 thrashing of Mons in the Belgian PRO League, while new Bafana Bafana call-up Daylon Claasen made a substitute performance against Club Brugge for his side Lierse.

SWEDEN

Swedish football returned to action this weekend and so did Tokelo Rantie, who came on as a substitute during Malmo's 4-1 victory over GIF Sundsvall in the Swedish Cup. May Mahlangu also warmed up for national duty as his Helsingborg defeated Gelsle to earn a spot in the next round of the tournament.
