Bafana’s Sangweni out of the World Cup qualifier

Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni has been ruled out of the Bafana clash against the Central African Republic due to an injury
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund has been dealt with a huge blow following the withdrawal of Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni for the upcoming World Cup Qualifier against the Central African Republic.

Sangweni is the second important player to be ruled out due to an injury after Tsepo Masilela was also out injured. Masilela was immediately replaced by Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Tebogo Langerman.

The 31-year-old Sangweni won the hearts of South African fans during the 2013 Afcon tournament, scoring two crucial goals that helped Bafana advance to the knockout stages.

Although the South African football governing body (Safa) is yet to announce Sangweni’s replacement, it is believed that Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho could fill the void left by Sangweni.

Still in the Bafana camp, Safa also confirmed that SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams will no longer join the national team as an additional member, after his club confirmed that the 21-year-old keeper suffered an injury during their 0-0 draw against Petro de Luanda in the Caf Confederations Cup clash on Sunday.
