Bafana’s Dean Furman leaves Oldham for Doncaster Rovers

Furman has left struggling Oldham Athletic for the log leaders Doncaster Rovers on loan until the end of the season

English League One log leaders Doncaster Rovers have officially announced the signing of Bafana midfielder Dean Furman on loan from Oldham Athletic until the end of the season.

Furman’s contract with Oldham is coming to an end in June, and he could be tempted to sign a permanent deal with Rovers for the 2013/2014 season.

The 24-year-old midfielder expressed his delight at joining Rovers, and he revealed that he aims to help the team get back into the Championship.

“I am delighted to be here. It’s a very exciting prospect for me. I’ve played at Keepmoat (Rovers Stadium) a couple of times before and it’s a great stadium,” Furman told Rovers website.

“The club is top of the league and is very ambitious in looking to get back into the Championship. I’m delighted to be here and hopefully I can help that cause,” said Furman.

The Bafana midfielder leaves Oldham Athletic after spending close to five seasons with them and he couldn’t hide his emotions after signing with Rovers, but he revealed that Rovers’ offer was too good to turn down.

“I have been at Oldham for a long time and I know the club inside out so obviously I leave with mixed emotions but this was just too good an opportunity to turn down,” he said.

Furman will be available for Doncaster Rovers in their next nine league games, and the Cape Town-born midfielder is aware of the pressure that comes with playing for the log leaders.

“There’s a different sort of pressure here but hopefully it’s one that I can thrive on. I’m excited to get stuck into the battle of the next nine games,” added Furman.

Dean Furman is expected to be in the country on Monday as Bafana will be preparing for their crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier clash against Central African Republic on March 23.
