Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter praised his players for their high level of concentration against Chippa United on Wednesday night

Kaizer Chiefs opened a five-point lead at the top of the PSL table with a hard fought 2-0 win over Chippa United at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter believes that his players were fully focused against Chippa United, and revealed that he had to make a few changes to penetrate the stubborn United defence.

“We made good options in the opening for the game, and we moved the ball quickly. I thought we were concentrating, and in the second half, we changed a couple of things, we were a bit more direct. I thought we picked up all the way through the game,” said Baxter after the match.

Baxter revealed that his focus now shifts to the Soweto derby on the weekend, and said that he is hoping for a great game against second placed Pirates.

“We got this one out of the way, and we can maybe start refreshing and preparing for the game on Saturday. It’s a great game for everybody who is concerned with South African football, but I hope all our players are hooked in that way as well,” said Baxter.

Chippa United coach Wilfred Mugeyi believes that his players did well against Chiefs, considering the fact that they got a player sent off. He admitted that it was the red card against them that changed the complexion of the game.

“I think my boys played very well. The first 10 minutes, I think we were a bit shaky, and we started to get into the game, as we started to control the game,” said Mugeyi.

“I think we were fantastic with our fast game, then we got the red card, then we lost our shape, but I think we still pushed forward, with one man short, and you know playing with one man short against Kaizer Chiefs is like committing suicide, but the boys showed commitment, and I am very proud of them,” added Mugeyi.
