Baxter wants Chiefs to respect Chippa United

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter warned players to respect United, when they visit Cape Town on Wednesday night

Following their 1-all draw against Bidvest Wits on Saturday evening, Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has warned his players to respect their next opponents, as they take on struggling Chippa United in Cape Town on Wednesday night.

Baxter admitted that he is faced with the challenge of ensuring that his players are focused on Chippa United, and not on the upcoming Soweto derby.

“It will be a challenge to keep the players’ focus on the Chippa game on Wednesday, knowing that there is a derby on the weekend, but it’s important to get the players’ minds on the job,” said Baxter.

“I will be disappointed if we don’t make sure that we are mentally prepared for a good performance in Cape Town,” he said.

The Amakhosi mentor also expressed his dissatisfaction at failing to collect maximum points at home against Wits, but believes there is something positive his team can take out of their last league match.

“I am not happy with the result, we should do better whenever we are playing at home, but I was impressed with the character we showed in the last 15 minutes of the game against Wits,” said the Chiefs coach.

Chiefs could travel to Cape Town without their left-back Tsepo Masilela, whom Baxter employed on the left-wing in the past two games, after sustaining an injury, but the Chiefs coach confirmed that further tests will be done to assess Masilela’s injury.

“It’s a muscle injury, but I am not sure how bad it is. We will have to wait for the medical report after some tests, and I am not sure if he will be available for our Cape Town trip,” added Baxter.
