Royals want Chiefs Nedbank scalp after Maritzburg tie
Tembu Royals coach Lwandile Magula told Goal.com that he would love to play against Kaizer Chiefs after Maritzburg in the Nedbank Cup
Royals made their top 16 entry after eliminating AmaZulu 2-1 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday. Despite the fact that his team has been drawn against Maritzburg United, the coach said he is mainly dreaming of playing Kaizer Chiefs.
“I would love to play against Kaizer Chiefs because they are a respected brand and that would give my player’s a lot of exposure. Apart from that, I think they would give us a better challenge in this competition. It is always good playing against big teams because they undermine you,” said Magula.
He said their victory against AmaZulu was proof that anything is possible and his players have what it takes to compete in the PSL.
“The AmaZulu game was just proof that my boys have what it takes to play in the PSL. The game was not easy- we had to stick to our plan as we came prepared. We knew that they were going to play like professionals, but we did not put that in our heads, we just concentrated on getting our basics right,” he said.
Magula also added that in two seasons from now his club will be regular embers in the PSL. He said they are using this tournament as a stepping stone as their eyes are set on the league.
“We are currently sitting on top of the Vodacom side in Eastern Cape and we want to qualify for the National First Division. We need to work hard and be committed, because I have already seen that things are not easy here. In two seasons from now, my club should be regulars in the PSL,” he said.
